What is the Letterboard and Spelling?

The letterboard is a low-tech communication tool that allows non-speaking or minimally speaking individuals to spell words by pointing to letters. With the support of a trained Communication Partner, the letterboard can be used to express thoughts, engage in academics, share ideas, and have meaningful dialogue.

What does it mean to Presume Competence?

Presuming competence means believing that every person learns, understands, and thinks—even if they haven’t been able to show output through traditional means yet or their behavior suggests otherwise. We believe that every student has immense potential to thrive when provided the right support.

Do you come to us, or do we have to travel?

We come to you! We offer in-home services throughout the Greater Boston area, primarily the South Shore and Metrowest areas. If you are unsure whether we can come to your location, feel free to ask - we are happy to discuss options.

Do you offer virtual services?

Yes, we do offer virtual services such as guided academic lessons, creative support, tutoring services, and project-based mentoring. Some communication supports may be available virtually depending on the learner's needs and goals.

How much do your services cost?

Our rates vary depending on the type of service, location, and how many hours you book. We offer sliding-scale pricing in some cases and discounts for regular weekly sessions. Please reach out for a personalized quote based on your needs.

Are you certified in RPM?

Please see the about page for our experience and qualifications. Currently we are not certified in RPM but plan to receive Level 1 certifications in January.

What client profiles do you work with?

We work with autistic individuals of all ages, communication styles, and support needs - including speakers, minimal or non-speakers, letterboard users, and those with no reliable forms of communication. We welcome clients with a wide range of motor profiles.

Are you a therapy provider?

No. We do not offer therapy, diagnoses, or clinical treatment.
